enjoyable, and secure learning environment, in order to help them gain the
awareness, skills, and confidence necessary to succeed in their present

Social
Services
The objective of Social
Services is to represent an organized method of assisting families to
assess their needs and then
providing those services that will build upon the individual strengths of
families to meet their own needs. Some of the activities that the Social
Services Staff use to assist families to meet their needs are: community
outreach, referrals, family needs assessments, providing information about
available community resources and how to obtain and use them, recruitment
and enrollment of children, and emergency assistance and/or crisis

Health
Head Start’s
commitment to wellness embraces a comprehensive vision of health for
children, families and staff. The objective is to support healthy physical
development by encouraging practices that prevent illness or injury, and
by promoting positive, culturally relevant health behaviors that enhance
life-long well-being.

Nutrition
The objective is to
promote child wellness by providing nutrition services that supplement and
complement those of the home and community. Head Start’s child nutrition
services assist families in meeting each child’s nutrition needs and in
establishing good eating habits that nurture healthy development and
promote life-long well-being.

Transportation
The overall objective of
Transportation is to provide transportation for our children to attend the
Head Start Centers. By implementing
a successful, the Federal Government has made funds for transportation. It
becomes our responsibility to provide the best transportation possible for
the tax dollars received.

Disability/Mental Health
The Disabilities
service insures that children with disabilities receive the full range of
developmental services in an inclusive environment. This includes children
with physical disabilities, health conditions, vision, hearing, speech or
learning impairments. Special services such as screenings, evaluations,
speech or physical therapy and transportation may also be provided.
The objective of
Mental Health is to build collaborative relationships among children,
families, staff, mental health professionals, and the larger community, in
order to enhance awareness and understanding of mental wellness and the
contribution that mental health information and services can make to the
wellness of all children and families.

Parent Involvement
Head Start offers
parents opportunities and support for growth, so that they can identify
their own strengths, needs and interests, and find their own solutions.
Our objective is to support parents as they identify and meet their own
goals, nurture the development of their children in the context of their
family and culture, and advocate for communities that are supportive of
children and families of all cultures.

Transition
The goal of
Transition is to provide children and families with the information and
resources they need to successfully prepare for entrance into kindergarten
and public school system. Staff and families work together to ensure the
transfer of relevant records between placements.

Training and
Career Development
The objective is to
promote training to develop the understandings, skills, and attitudes of
staff necessary to carry out a quality child development program. The two
components, of training and career development overlap when training
events are designed to meet the needs of individual staff members.
Effective training will be the first step toward reaching desired career
development goals.

Fatherhood The
Fatherhood Service Area aims to enable father to guide and lead their
child/children into a responsible lifestyle. Head Start fathers can take
advantage of an array of services that include information and workshops
about the importance of taking good care of self, assistance with
completing admissions and other forms to enter a job training program at
an accredited/licensed college/school; assistance creating or upgrading a
résumé and preparing for a job interview, useful material that responds to
expressed needs or interests, family literacy strategies, assistance
enrolling in GED or Adult Education classes.
